Can anyone recall going to the school dances?

I think this one was taken at VBH in 1968 and

I'm playing bass in a band called Aspects of Love.
Cheesy they'd call it these days.

Glen Larner

Paul Hoffman writes:

The photo was taken at the Vaucluse HI-Ball, taken at the then most popular night venue, Whisky à go go in William St Kings Cross. Perhaps Murray may still have the red invitations of the "lady" on the Chaise Longue. The venue represented the most radical change from the traditional formal school year 12 Ball destinations. Organised by Murray Cox, myself and John Allen. A real "Blast" from the past.

To remind you of some of the changes we instigated during 1968, we made it possible for senior boys to wear shorts during the warmer months, we were permitted to leave the school grounds at lunch time to have lunch and cigarettes in the park, I think it's called Samuel park. I tried returning from winter school holidays with a masterful beard, but unfortunately got sprung by both the Boss and Colquhoun. "Don't even think of coming in till that's gone". I failed on that reform.

The end of year school magazine was a masterpiece of its time. Murray editor in chief, myself as photographer and a number of special contributors. '68, a good year, but not a slurp on '69"I think helped its notoriety and reduced circulation.

Glen writes: "My memory is it was the hall as we did do some high school dances there."

The staff shows Alan Rosen on the far left..a good friend of mine when I was on staff 1968-72 (Science). Peter Newcombe was also a great friend and Graham Cole and I ran the school sailing. We would sail our Moth class dinghys on Wednesday with the school at Vaucluse Bay then sail again on Sundays on Botany Bay.

Lots of fun on fridays after school...usually ended up somewhere ??? drunk with Cole and Kesby!

Dr Peter Scott

This is the Bellco Chalk Factory which was part of a gypsum mine in the Innes National Park at the end of the York Peninsula in South Australia. From this humble shed came all the high quality chalk that was used in every school in Australia. We were all educated by that chalk & some of us even had it thrown at us. How’s the synchronicity half way across the world? There’s more than meets the eye than merely the material world, eh?
